The Café Society

Just 'cos i said i'd do a drawrring on it in a previous post. I wouldn't say i sought out to really depict the "bright young things" and the definition of the term.. But whatever.

Girls drawn are totally inspired by Veronica Lake and Ava Gardner as she looked in Mogambo.

Red Red Wiiiinnnee

Good Night, Jet Set

Whoa! Has it been that long since my last last update? Time flies.. And hey! Speaking of flight (ew...  whatevers, its written), i've always liked the term jet set. Just sounds cool. It refered to the prestigious uber-hip, uber-rich international socialites of the 1950s who flew all over the world, party-ing it up and doing whatever the fashionable crowd does.

The term has lost it's clout though and i don't know if there's a new term to take its place. Jet set did replace the term 'café society', which i also think is cool sounding. I might do a sketch on that later...

Guy Fawkes Day

Hey, why didn't anyone tell me it was Guy Fawkes Day yesterday? A night o' celebration (or something) for the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1606. An attempt by Catholic anarchists to blow up British Parliament in retaliation for persecution.

Plus! Apparently it's also how the term 'guy' came to refer to any dude. The effigies of Guy Fawkes that were burned in celebration on that night were called 'guys' and were often grotesque looking. Soon any ugly looking fella was called a guy.. Then eventually just any fella.

And while i'm on that topic, i remember reading that the term 'dude' was originally a wild west term to refer to any sharply dressed man from the east. In particular if he was too sharply dressed, implying him to be a bit effeminate. I guess it was the wild west equivalent for metrosexual.

Anyway. Have a good night, all.
